John has over 20 years’ experience in recording, producing and mixing music. From his early days with a music scholarship at school, to touring the world as a guitarist and frontman, his musical knowledge and expertise is second-to-none. He has trained up several apprentices who have gone on to set up their own studios, but his approach and ethos to getting the best out of a band remains unique and unrivalled. He looks a bit like Billy Bob Thornton or him out of the Stereophonics.
Simon is a talented multi-instrumentalist (keys, bass, drums, vocals and guitar) and came to the studio several years ago to record with his band We Caught The Castle, and hasn’t really left since then! His role as Assistant Engineer and Producer has seen him spearheading many of the recent recording projects at Outhouse. He has a great rapport with our clients, and looks a little bit like Mel from Flight of the Conchords.
Outhouse Studios is one of the most original music recording studios in the UK today, delivering a unique studio sound, quality and experience that many bands and engineers seek to replicate.
Set up in 1993 by John Mitchell, the studio has recorded and produced hundreds of bands over the years, helping many of them achieve worldwide success. John continues to lead the team at Outhouse, instilling his distinctive approach and ethos to music production in all his staff.
The studio is housed inside an original Victorian coach house, which has been fully converted to provide a spacious control room and soundproofed vocal booth, as well as a floating soundproofed drum booth which is also used for cab micing.
